They still need compounding, stripes, wax and backboards....but it's nice to see paint on them.

Echo making progress..
Echo is well underway...this hull has a lot of subtle curves and should prove to be a challenge.
This lifts are cut and glued up. The hull shaping starts today between coats of paint on the twins. This is the ugliest part of the process. Now every hour spent at least makes it feel more rewarding.

Damn....crap
Both the twins are showing texture problems. Sand down, prime, and paint again.
Stupid mistake.
Stupid mistake.
Sliver progress....

New project "Echo" a Hinckley 42...R&D day
I'm doing this hull for a friend on Lake Ontario...she is a Hinckley 42, his pride and joy.
I'll post step by step and you can watch me make mistakes, and correct them. Today R&D.
Steve was able to get he hull lines from the nice people at Hinckley. A great advantage if I'm to make a accurate representation, but it can be done from photos, drawings, and Bob Perry's advice when I come up blank. It's great to have one of the worlds top yacht designers on my staff.
Today I take the copy of the original faded drawings, hi-light the lines and make notes to myself...next it's off to Staples to have them reduce the size by a third so I can work in 1/2" scale (not the original 3/4") which has been chosen for this hull.
This process will take me most of the day because I have to shovel the driveway too.
My office staff are eagerly waiting the launch of this exciting project.

This is my workshop...a roomy 10 x 12' garden shed with no heat. Did I mention I live in Northern Ontario? I do the cutting and sanding in the shop and the glueing and painting in my small utilty room in the house.
Once I get them tidied up I'll post some pics.
My first Blog Entry
In this blog I hope to show the progress of the half hull yachts I am building and those I have completed...as I figure out this new technology I'll hopefully be able to both teach (a bit) and learn (a lot) about this old craft.
